Srinagar: Expressing anguish and grief over the murderous assault on a noted journalist and Rising Kashmir editor-in-chief, Syed Shujaat Bukhari, Jammu and Kashmir Editors Forum Friday said his killing has created a vacuum which can never be filled.
“He was the face of Kashmir’s media fraternity. He was not only an inspiration for journalist of Kashmir but for the media professional of entire subcontinent. His reportage was highly professional, which became driving force for many youth to take up journalism as profession,” a statement by the forum issued to GNS said.
It said that Syed Shujaat Bukhari throughout his career highlighted the issues of common masses who suffered immensely during the last three decades of conflict in the valley.
“Through his career, he nourished and encouraged the budding journalists who currently are holding higher position in international media houses. He was ready to help his juniors and never ever stepped back from speaking facts and truth at international forums,” the statement said.
The Forum said it will carry forward the mission of the Syed Shujaat Bukhari to highlight the problems of media fraternity in general and people in particular.
It said that Syed Shujaat Bukhari had always dreamt of the upliftment of the regional media by highlighting its issues and problems.
“We will carry forward his mission and accomplish Shujaat sahab’s dream in whatever circumstances. He was a noble person apart from being a highly professional journalist,” the statement added.
The Forum thanked the media fraternity, civil society, separatists, government and people who were equally shattered by the killing of Syed Shujaat Bukhari.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held by the Forum in which the members paid rich tribute to Syed Shujaat Bukhari.
A resolution was also passed in which the members decided to work for the betterment of the local media on all fronts.
“He is a martyr and his murderers should be identified and dealt sternly under law,” the statement said.
