Srinagar: Home Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the post-ceasefire situation in Kashmir after returning from his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh during his 2-day visit to the Jammu and Kashmir, reviewing the security scenario following government of India’s decision to halt anti-militancy operations during the ongoing month of Ramdhan, which began on May 16
Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the home minister apprised Prime Minister about the ground situation of the state assessed by him during his visit. “Home Minister briefed Prime Minister about the prevailing security situation in the Valley, which has witnessed relative calm after the announcement of ceasefire,” sources maintained.
The situation along the Indo-Pak border and the Line of Control, which has seen repeated ceasefire violations from across, also figured in the discussion.
Sources said that the home Minister also briefed Prime Minister about the arrangements for the two- month long yatra scheduled to start on June 28.
Sources said that both the Prime Minister and Home Minister also discussed the possibilities of extending the ceasefire beyond the month of Ramzan.
It is to mention here that union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Friday said the decision on extending ceasefire in Jammu Kashmir would be taken after reviewing State’s security situation and deliberations with the State government.
“After some days we will take a review of security situation, talk to representatives of the state and then take a decision on ceasefire extension,” Singh had told reporters here.
Singh, after holding a review meeting with top security brass in Srinagar had also not ruled out possibility of extending the ceasefire.
Rajnath was given a power point presentation on the present prevailing security situation in Kashmir in the backdrop of the ceasefire announcement. “Every security agency put forth their view points on extension of ceasefire. We talked about ceasefire as a success so far but at the same time, we highlighted a few of its drawbacks also,” a top security official wishing anonymity had told KNS.
Sources said that the during the security review meeting in Srinagar at SKICC, top security officers had expressed satisfaction on ceasefire during Ramadan saying it had helped improve the general situation in Valley.
However according to sources the decision about extension of ceasefire will only be announced after the security review meeting likely to be held in New Delhi in the next week. (KNS)
