Srinagar: The minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Wednesday visited various localities of Srinagar city to take appraisal of progress on various ongoing developmental works.

The Minister was accompanied by senior officers of Department of Public Works, Srinagar Municipal Committee and senior citizens of the city.

Bukhari visited various localities of Hyderpora including Chanapora, Noorabaad colony and other nearby localities. The minister interacted with the residents of the area who apprised the minister about the issues faced by them in their respective localities.

The minister took stock of the drainage system of the area and directed the concerned officers to construct a robust drainage system in the area so that the people feel a sigh of relief. Earlier people complained that the choked drain has become a nuisance for them. Minister directed the officers to start work on the construction of drains at earliest and assured liberal funding to them for the said project.

Bukhari directed the concerned officers to improve the pace and monitoring of the construction works in these areas and asked them to conduct frequent visits to different sites of ongoing projects to ensure their completion in time.

The minister later visited the Jamia Masjid Hyderpora wherein he   directed officials to construct two main gates of the Masjid out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and also directed SMC to take measures for proper drainage of water from the masjid premises.

Minister said the government is committed to provide basic amenities to the people of the state besides laying a better drainage system in the Srinagar city. He said the sewerage and drainage system in Srinagar was in bad shape and that government is rebuilding and updating the drainage system to avoid frequent water logging.

While interacting with the locals, Minister said the government is committed to provide basic amenities to the people and overall development of the State, adding that various initiatives have been taken in this regard. He said results of developmental initiatives taken by the present government are witnessing on ground.
