‘Sunday market’ closed following security arrangements for PDP rally in Srinagar

Srinagar: The famous ‘Sunday market’ in the summer capital, Srinagar was closed in view of unprecedented security arrangements put in place for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally at S K park.
Meanwhile, security forces have been deployed in strength around S K Park while all roads leading to the venue, where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is expected to address the rally, have been closed with barbed wires.
Security forces have closed all entry points, including from TRC, Radio Kashmir and Polo View, and no vehicle or civilians are allowed near the venue. Only people with valid passes after thorough checking are being allowed to move towards S K Park.
The 3-km-long weekly market from Radio Kashmir (RK), Srinagar, crossing to Hari Singh High Streets (HSHS), including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, attracts thousands of buyers from different parts of the valley.
However, today the 3-km-long stretch was deserted and only security force personnel could be seen deployed in the area.
The unprecedented security arrangements have been put in place in view of upward spiral in militants attacks in the summer capital from the last couple of days. On Saturday, three grenades attacks rocked Srinagar, resulting in injuries to four CRPF personnel and two civilians.
