Virtually endorsing the joint statement Joint Resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq the Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and Mohammad Yasin Malik the JKLF Chairman in which it asked the Government of India to clear ambiguity on the offer of dialogue the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said ‘there is no ceasefire but operations against onwide outrage against unilateral ceasefire announced by the Centre to appease PDP and other separatist groups of Valley, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday this week declared that government has not announced any ceasefire in Jammu & Kashmir but the operation against the militants has been suspended for some time. In fact the U-turn of Home Minister Rajnath Singh is a total contradiction of the words Prime Minister Narendra Modi mouthed during his addressed to an official function at SKICC Srinagar on 19th May. The statement of Home Minister Rajnath Singh not only contradicts the utterances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ceasefire during his one day visit to Jammu & Kashmir early this month but also the statements of the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. Interestingly General Bipin Rawat in his recent statement even dropped hints at the possibility of extending the unilateral ceasefire against militants in Jammu & Kashmir after the holy month of Ramadhan also.

Had the decision on unilateral ceasefire been announced at a meeting of the cabinet committee on security the Modi government won’t have gone into disrepute over the allegations of ambiguity triggered by the contradictory statements of different power centres in Delhi

Usually Central Government’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) would take the decisions like unilateral ceasefire in Jammu & Kashmir and consequently the collective decision of the cabinet committee on security (CSS) won’t leave any scope for any member of the committee to create any ambiguity over decisions taken. Unfortunately the ceasefire proposal of the Chief Minister Mehbooba was rejected by Defence Minister but one day later the ceasefire was announced by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a tweet. Had the decision on ceasefire been taken by the cabinet committee on security represented among others by the Home and the Defence Ministers the Home Minister won’t exercise the power and authority to contradict his own statement on ceasefire in Jammu & Kashmir. Decisions concerning internal security of any country are not taken by individuals but by the highest decision making body of the country and same holds good for India. Had the decision on unilateral ceasefire been announced at a meeting of the cabinet committee on security the Modi government won’t have gone into disrepute over the allegations of ambiguity triggered by the contradictory statements of different power centres in Delhi
