Guv’s message on “World No Tobacco Day”

Srinagar: “World No Tobacco Day” is observed on 31st May every year. This year the theme is “Tobacco and heart disease”. Governor N.N. Vohra, in a message, has called upon the government and public to spread awareness and take all possible initiatives to highlight the enormous damage to health, development and the economy which is caused by the use of tobacco. He cautioned that the coming generations must be timely protected from the devastating consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.
Governor observed that besides the need of effectively enforcing all related laws for discouraging the consumption of cigarettes and other tobacco products, it is also necessary to organise workshops, seminars, rallies and similar other initiatives for spreading awareness among the masses about the highly injurious effects of smoking. He said it must be made known that a very large number of people die every year due to smoking related diseases.
