Bandipore: A youth was killed after the branch of a hollow Chinar fell upon him in Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The death sparked massive protest even as locals alleged that despite repeated pleas, authorities didn’t bother to chop down hollow chinar trees in the area.
“There are over 7 hollow chinar trees near CHC Hospital which pose greater risk to life and property. The school and college going students can anytime become prey of these hollow chianr trees,” said Reyaz Ahmed, President Traders Federation Sumbal.
He said they have decided to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow against what he called ‘murder’ of young man.
The deceased was identified as 24 year old Imtiyaz Ahmed Kumar son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Asham Sumbal. (CNS)
