Sajad Lone inaugurates 3-day prosthetic aids camp

Srinagar: Minister for Social Welfare, ARI Trainings and Science Technology, Sajad Gani Lone, Wednesday inaugurated a three-day ‘Improvised Accessibility and Mobility’ camp at Indoor Stadium here.

The camp is being organized by Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities of Jammu and Kashmir of Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Composite Regional Centre (CRC) Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC), Directorate of Social Welfare, ICDS, ICPS, and supported by KIWANI International.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed on initiating joint efforts to ensure that the disabled persons get better accessibility to all necessary services in a more pragmatic manner. “Such camps provide us with an opportunity to peep into the past endeavors and recognize our shortcomings for further improving the services towards these special people,” he said.

Interacting with some of the differently-abled persons, Lone said society needs to understand that children with disabilities have great potential and if given an opportunity can contribute remarkably in all fields.

He also distributed wheelchairs among the beneficiaries on the occasion.

Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) Mohammad Iqbal Lone said the Government is very keen for the welfare and empowerment of the disabled persons in the State. He said aim and objective of the camp is that the persons with the disability can get themselves registered for providing artificial limbs free of cost and will avail the benefits of several schemes.

The Coordinator of the Camp Shameem Ahmad, who is also Incharge of the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) Srinagar, said on the first day around 130 disabled persons were registered in the camp and were checked by a team of Doctors and will be provided necessary required artificial limbs. He said besides, other things, hearing-aid, wheelchairs and other associated appliances will be provided to the beneficiaries.

Managing Director JKWDC, Director Social Welfare Mohammad Qasim senior officers of allied departments and media persons were present on the occasion.
