Srinagar: The Joint House Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council constituted to look into the alleged medical negligence by doctors into the death of son of sitting MLC, Ramesh Arora in Government Medical College, Jammu met here Monday under the chairmanship of MLC, Ghulam Nabi Moga and discussed some of the important aspects related to the incident.

Legislators, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr Shehnaz Ganai and Firdous Ahmad Tak attended the meeting.

The Committee discussed the measures to be taken to further improving the health care and infrastructural facilities in Government health institutions, including GMC, Jammu so that every common man can avail these hassle-free. The Committee opined that healthcare is the fundamental right of every citizen, for which the Government spends lot of funds, and authorities must ensure that best treatment is ensured to every needy. They further called that health authorities should be made more transparent and accountable to restore the confidence of patients and every effort should be made that no patient dies due to medical negligence.

The members suggested several valuable measures to be taken at the tertiary level to save precious lives in the government institutions. They called for periodical review of facilities by the higher authorities to plug the gaps, if any found at any level. The health is a paramount sector and Government should pay focused attention to further strengthen it at all levels, said the Committee.

It was also decided that the Committee will undertake a detailed inspection of GMC, Jammu and other health institutions on 25th and 26th of May, 2018 and take stock of the existing health infrastructure vis-a-vis diagnostic facilities available for the patients.

Additional Secretary, Council, Ali Mohammad Rawat, besides other senior officers and officials of Council Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
