Srinagar/May,19: Hurriyat Conference (M)Chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq was on Friday detained after he defied house detention and tried to lead a protest march to Lal Chowk called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on the eve of the one day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu & Kashmir during which he is scheduled to e-inaugurate a number of developmental projects at SKICC Srinagar.
Reports said police sleuths deployed outside the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq detained him immediately after he came out to lead a protest march to Lal Chowk. He was later lodged at police station Nigeen. As reported already Lal Chowk has been completed sealed by the police and paramilitaries deployed in strength in the area.
Before his detention, Mirwaiz urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has arrived in the state to inaugurate developmental projects, to resolve the Kashmir dispute as per the wishes of its people.“Kashmir has been turned into a military state. We were planning to hold a peaceful rally at Lal Chowk. The cost of conflict is rising with the day. Yesterday, eleven people were killed at the border. Modi should resolve the Kashmir dispute,” he said.
