Srinagar/May, 14: More than half a dozen protesting Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers are reported to have been injured in police action and dozens others arrested in City centre Lal Chowk on Monday afternoon.
As the teachers tried to march towards civil secretariat, the contingents of police reached on spot and pushed dozens of them into police vehicles and lodged them in Police Station Kothi Bagh .
The teachers were protesting against the inordinate delay adopted by the government in de-linking SSA teachers’ salary from funds received from government of India.
Hundreds of teachers had assembled in Pratap Park Srinagar to press for their demands.
However, an eye witness said police resorted to cane-charging after the protesting teachers blocked the traffic movement on busy Residency Road Lal Chowk.
Pertinently, the salary of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers (ReT) recruited under SSA scheme is pending from over three months.
SDPO Kothi Bagh, Imran Farooq confirmed detention of teachers, saying “they will be released.”
