Srinagar/May, 13: Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly murdering his would-be wife in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police statement issued here on Sunday said the body of 24-year-old missing girl, Rifat Bano of Gujar Patti Sangri Colony was recovered from Mohara Uri.
“In the course of investigation the fiancé of the missing girl emerged to be the prime suspect, who was apprehended and during questioning confessed the murder…,” police said.
The accused was identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhatti of Mohra, Uri.
The girl was missing from May 5 and her family had lodged missing report in Baramulla police station, it said.
“The girl had reportedly gone to meet her fiancé (accused ) with whom she was formally engaged. The wedding dates were being finalized by the families,” police said.
Police said that preliminary investigation suggests that motive behind the murder was “love triangle”, since the accused Bhatti was allegedly in relationship with another woman.
The body of the murdered girl will be handed over her family after completion of medico legal formalities, police said.
