JK BJP rejects Mehbooba’s proposal on ceasefire ahead of Ramadan

Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s ally in Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday said it will not support the call for a ceasefire agreement with militants during Ramzan in Kashmir, said a media repor. This comes a day after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said all participants at an all-party meeting had agreed to appeal to the Centre to declare a unilateral ceasefire.
“We didn’t agree to Ramadan ceasefire in the all-party meet,” BJP spokesperson Sunil Sethi said adding “There was no consensus on sending an all-party delegation to meet theprime minister.”
He also said, “We are in complete disagreement and the chief minister cannot pressure us on this (ceasefire),” Sethi said. “It is not going to do any good. The Army’s operations to neutralise militants have been successful.” Addressing reporters at a press conference, Sethi said there was no consensus on the proposal.
Rafi Ahmed Mir, the PDP’s spokesperson, said that the BJP neither proposed the ceasefire nor opposed the ceasefire. “Their view would be taken into consideration when the authorities initiate a ceasefire,” Ahmed said.
