The outrage of the people of Kashmir irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies shows their concern for the killing of innocents caused by the violent actions of the either side—-the stone throwing angry youth or the government forces. Alas! had the people in rest of the country agitated against the killing of civilians in forces action in Kashmir and harassment of Kashmiri youth studying in educational institutions in different parts of the country, the street violent won’t have become a Himalayan challenges for the government forces in Jammu & Kashmir. The people in rest of the country should learn lessons from the outrage of the people of all shades irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies against the killing of one tourist. Today Kashmir is apologetic on killing of one non Kashmiri civilian but crores of Indian never and never tend to be apologetic over the thousands of civilian killings during last three years of armed conflict in Jammu & Kashmir. Ironically the national news channels dub the slain civilians as stone pelters eyes shut without looking into the causes of their deaths in forces action. Though a commission of inquiry (CoI) was instituted during the reign of previous Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition to investigate more than one hundred civilian killings reported in the year 2010 but the fact finding report popularly called “Koul Commission report” submitted to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti last year is yet to be put into public domain and no one in rest of the country talks about the follow up action on the report that should have been initiated against the people indicted in the report long back. In 2016 over one hundred civilians were killed in crowd control policing but the government flatly rejection the opposition’s demand for instituting a commission of inquiry (CoI) into the killing of civilian during 2016’s six month long unrest.
The concern and pain shown by the people of Kashmir irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies deserves a much stronger respone from the people in rest of the country over the killing of civilians in forces action in Kashmir valley.
Civilians in Kashmir are killed and blinded day after day, week after week , month after month and year after year by the pellet guns used randomly in crowd control policing but instead of supporting the demand for ban on the use of lethal weapons like pellet guns the TV anchors on national news channels distort facts and paint a dismal picture of the ground realities in Jammu & Kashmir. The concern and pain shown by the people of Kashmir irrespective of their political affiliations and ideologies deserves a much stronger respone from the people in rest of the country over the killing of civilians in forces action in Kashmir valley.
