Srinagar: A four member delegation of Kashmir University Teachers Association led by its President Dr. Muheet Ahmed Butt, met Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan Wednesday.

The delegation submitted a memorandum regarding certain important issues concerning the University of Kashmir. These included expediting the selection process of the new Vice-Chancellor and constitution of a committee to monitor performance of Vice-Chancellor on an annual basis; constitution of Student’s Council and Student’s grievance cell; streamlining and strengthening of the existing student feedback mechanism so that apart from taking feedback on teachers and their teaching quality, recommendations about their courses, departments, HoDs and University should also be taken; enhancement in the retirement age of University teachers; time bound disposal of promotion cases of teachers; grant of sufficient number of faculty positions and financial support for development of Institute of Technology,  Zakura and addressing various issues relating to development of North and South campuses and satellite campuses of the University; and consider appointment of only academicians on all academic positions in the University.

Governor assured the delegation early consideration of all the issues raised by them and stressed the high responsibility of faculty members, Deans and the Vice-Chancellor to regularly advise and guide the students in regard to their academic and all other problems faced by them, of whatever kind. The teachers must also remain totally devoted to promoting the interests of the University on all fronts and not get drawn into extraneous interests and partisan controversies. He regretted that the institution had been unable to adequately meet the arising challenges for want of will and concerted action.
