Srinagar: Paying glowing tributes to the martyr’s of Khanyar, Srinagar on their 27th martyrdom anniversary, Hurriyat Conference (M) here on Tuesday said that exactly 27 years ago on this day 25 unarmed innocent people were massacred by the government forces by resorting to indiscriminate firing and leaving dozens of others seriously wounded.
The statement issued here in Tuesday said ‘nn the directions of incarcerated Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a delegation including among other Khateeb of famous shrine of Khanyar Moulvi Nazir Ahmed Qadiri and many prominent faces of trading fraternity offered Fateh khawani for the slain martyrs of Khanyar’. The delegation, according to the statement, said that ‘mission of martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion and asked people to remain steadfast till the ongoing movement reaches its goal’.
The delegation strongly condemned the forces ‘highhandedness’ in Shopian and other south Kashmir districts and imposition of strict curfew in majority of downtown areas. The delegation expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
The delegation also strongly condemned the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq and other resistance leaders terming it as political vendetta.
