Gunfight ends at Chattabal Srinagar ends, 3 LeT militants killed : Police

Srinagar,/May, 5: Police on Saturday sais that three militants were on Saturday killed in an encounter with contingents of police and paramilitary CRPF in Chattabal area in uptown Srinagar.. Sleuths of police and paramilitary CRCRP had cordoned the area and were conducting searches to nab the militants who they believed were hiding in the area.

Police in its statement issued Saturday afternoon said that perusing credible leads, Srinagar police along with CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chatabal Area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Safakadal, Srinagar. While the searches were intensified, the hiding militants  fired upon the joint search party. The fire, the statement said,   was retaliated, ensuing an encounter. In the encounter 3 militants  were killed whose identifications are being ascertained. Incriminating materials including heavy arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.On the basis of the materials recovered from the site it is found that the terrorists belonged to  LeT. Further in the said incident no collateral damage has taken place.

The statement further said that the area was sealed to carry out further searches on cooling of rubbles immediately after the encounter ended to ensure no damage is caused by any explosive material left over at the encounter site.A case into the incident has been registered and investigations taken up
