Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq Friday said that the students were forced to protest on streets in Kashmir government does not give them a breathing space to express their opinions freely.
“No space given to students to express their opinion or register protest in a democratic and peaceful manner as all student bodies and forums stand banned by authorities,” said Mirwaiz, in a tweet.
He called on the government to reconsider its policy of “repression”.
“Govt should realize the futility of repression as a policy and allow student forums and ….activism so that students don’t need to come on roads to be heard!” he said.
Kashmir has witnessed massive protest demonstrations by the students during this month over killings of civilians in forces’ action and gangrape-and-murder of a minor girl in Kathua.
Dozens of students were injured after they clashed with the government forces.
