Srinagar: A symbolic one-hour shutdown was Saturday afternoon observed in the city centre to press hard over the demand for justice to Kathua minor who was gang raped and murdered in January earlier this year.
Shopkeepers in several markets of the business hub Lal Chowk pulled down shutters on Saturday afternoon in solidarity with the Kathua rape and murder victim. The protesting shopkeepers observed the shutdown from 3 PM- 4PM.
Markets at Polo View, Residency Road, The Bund, Lambert Lane, Fairdeal Shopping Complex and Regal Chowk observed the shutdown.
Shouting pro-justice slogans and holding banners, the traders marched from Polo View to Press Enclave.
Farhan Kitab, president, Regal Chowk Traders Association said fast-tracking the case for the justice of the victim is the common demand of the traders. “Justice delayed is justice denied. Let the perpetrators of this heinous crime be brought to book as soon as possible,” demanded Kitab.
