Jammu: All of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers who are currently part of the Mehbooba Mufti government have been asked by the party leadership to tender their resignations by tonight.
Top sources in BJP while disclosing this to “Kashmir Horizon” revealed that the decision, the sources said, was a prelude to a reshuffle the party plans to carry out in Jammu and Kashmir.
The saffron party, according to sources, is looking to induct fresh faces into the Mufti government and the resignations are part of the party’s strategy to shuffle portfolios and give opportunities to other state leaders.
The sources maintained that the BJP’s alliance with Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party in Srinagar is not under threat. The BJP does not intend to withdraw its support to the Mehbooba led coalition government, the sources said.
Currently, BJP leaders who are part of the Mufti government in Jammu and Kashmir include Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh, Bali Bhagat, Sajad Gani Lone, Chering Dorjay, Sham Lal Chaudhary, Abdul Ghani Kohli, Sunil Kumar Sharma (MoS), Priya Sethi (MoS), and Ajay Nanda (MoS).
This development comes just days after two BJP ministers – Industries Minister Chandra Prakash and Forest Minister Lal Singh – resigned over the controversy generated by their presence at a rally in support of the accused in the horrific Kathua gang rape and murder case.
The Kathua rape case has received international attention and the two BJP ministers’ presence at the rally was severally criticised within the country. However, the decision of the remaining BJP ministers to quit the Mufti government does not seem to be linked to the Kathua rape case.
