Omar welcomes FIR against lawyers

Srinagar: Welcoming lodging of FIR against lawyers who on Monday obstructed Crime Branch (CB) officials from filing a chargesheet in Asifa rape and murder case in Kathua, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said that the lawyers who have no respect for the law deserve to have the full weight of the law books crash down on them.
“Good. Lawyers who have no respect for the law deserve to have the full weight of the law books crash down on them,” Abdullah, who is the working president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
A group of lawyers tried to prevent CB from producing the challan in the court on Monday. However, later with the help of police the challan was filed in the court. Seven persons were arrested by the CB in the rape and murder case. A number of BJP leaders and Kathua Bar Association are demanded that the case be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Two ministers of the BJP also joined protest against the arrest of accused, evoking massive condemnation from various organizations.
Director General of Police (GDP) S P Vaid said that an FIR has been filed against lawyers for obstructing Crime Branch from filing chargesheet in Asifa rape and murder case.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India , Congress and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) have strongly condemned the action of Kathua lawyers.
