Jammu: An under-trial was on Saturday assaulted by another prisoner with an iron rod at District Jail Kathua , police said.
Dilshad Hussain, an accused under section 302 (murder), lodged in District Jail, Kathua, was attacked by another prisoner, Saddam Hussain, said an official.
He said that Saddam Hussain was deputed on mess duty Saturday morning when he attacked Dilshan with an iron bar, injuring him.
The injured was taken to District Hospital, Kathua for preliminary treatment where from he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for advanced treatment.
Police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law and started further investigation, said the official.
