Shutdown, restrictions hit normal life in valley

Srinagar: Normal life was disrupted on Friday due to shout down called by traders body against the unabated killings in Kashmir while to thwart protest marches after Friday congregational prayers authorites imposed curfew like restrictions in parts of Kashmir including old Srinagar city.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for widespread protests against the killings after Friday congregational prayers. Authorities detained Geelani and Mirwaiz at their houses while Muhammad Yasin Malik is already languishing in Central Jail.
Authorities imposed restrictions in the sensitive parts of Kashmir.
Twenty people including 13 militants, 3 Army soldiers and 4 civilians were killed in three separate gun battles in South Kashmir on April 1 while over 100 civilians were injured in clashes with security forces. A youth in Kangan Gowhar Ahmed Rather was also killed in police action.
Amid tight security clashes broke out at several places across Kashmir in which around many protesters were injured.
Station House Officer Nigeen Manzoor Ahmed was wounded after a stone hit his head near Dagh Park. Reports said that he has received over a dozen stitches on his forehead while his eye has also damaged partially.
Clashes took place at several parts in the Valley including Soura, Magam, Beerwah, Thregam Kupwara, Palhalan, Naidkahi, Charar-e-Sharif, Newa, Muran and Qalampora Pulwama, Memandar and Bonabazar Shopian. Couple of protesters suffered minor injuries in Soura.
The separatist leaders were either placed under house arrest or lodged in different police stations to prevent any protests. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai was placed under house arrest at his residence Baghat, Srinagar.
Life in Kashmir remained crippled as all the commercial establishments, offices, Educational Institutes remained closed and traffic remained off the roads in the Valley due to strike.
Authorities imposed restrictions in South Kashmir, while the restrictions. Restrictions were also imposed in parts of Srinagar city where roads were blocked by the government forces to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
No Friday prayers were allowed at historical Jamia Masjid here in Srinagar city. Geelani was supposed to offer Friday prayers at Hamzah Masjid at Amira Kadal, however, authorities detained him at his house. A protest was carried out by Anjuman Shari Shain at Budgam in which a large number of people participated who amid pro-freedom slogans denounced the civilian killings.
