Jammu: Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Law & Justice, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here Wednesday.
Khan briefed Governor about important matters relating to the areas of his responsibility and about the arrangements made to defend the various important cases being heard in the apex court. He also informed about the Government’s plans to hold Panchayat elections later this year; progress achieved by the State in construction of individual household toilets in the rural areas after the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Khan informed that the J&K government’s aim is to become Open Defecation Free (ODF) by October 2019.
Governor spoke to Khan about the crucial importance of ensuring the timely implementation of all rural development schemes and emphasized the high importance of ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in all the village areas.
