Omar deletes tweet after facing criticism

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday deleted his tweet about attack on tourists in Kashmir after facing heavy criticism.
Omar Abdullah had uploaded a screen shot of a news report filed by Times of India captioned ‘Stone-pelters attack tourists in J&K, 4 hurt’. With the screen shot Omar had written: “These stone-pelters are no friends or well-wishers of Kashmirs. They deserve to face the weight of law.”
Abdullah who has a huge fan following faced lot of criticism while majority of netizens from Kashmir Valley accused him of acting irresponsibly. “You need to check facts first. How come a politician like you act irresponsibly,” a Kashmiri youth responded to him.
The netizens quoting police described the news as fake.
The news report claimed that tourists are leaving Kashmir Valley as they came under attack in different parts of Valley, a claim vehemently refuted by police.
“Police has strongly denied this report. They say except one incident where two tourists were caught in clashes/stone-pelting on Sunday, there is no truth in any such incident including attack on Indonesian tourist at Dal Lake,” wrote a journalist.
People’s Democratic Party youth leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra also responded to the tweet of Omar Abdullah. He wrote:
“Sad you prefer to promote a news that’s baseless, insulting and defaming/maligning the image of whole Kashmiri’s @OmarAbdullah”
In response to Parra’s tweet Omar Abdullah not only deleted the earlier tweet but also came up with another tweet: “I’ve deleted it for the time being but if this is really fake news let’s see an acceptance of the same & a retraction of the story on the front of tomorrow’s Times of India. I’ll happily tweet a photo of that also. Now retweet this as well.”
