Kishtwar: Muslims in Kishtwar and Bhadarwah areas of Chenab Valley observed a shutdown to mourn the killings in Kashmir.
In Kishtwar, the call for shutdown was forwarded by Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed while the same call in Bhadarwah was issued by President Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah Parvez Ahmed Sheikh.
Majority of the business establishments and educational institutes owned by Muslims in twin town remained closed while public transport also remained largely off the roads.
Reports said that the work in government offices and banks wasn’t affected by the strike call.
Eyewitnesses said peaceful sit-ins were held in these two towns in which large number of people participated.
In his address to the people, President Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah Parvez Ahmed Sheikh demanded autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir. He said human killings will not serve any purpose as it will alienate more and more people.
“Roads of Kashmir are being drenched in blood while there is no accountability. The solution to Kashmir problem will come through dialogue between India, Pakistan and people of Kashmir,” he said adding that the visit of interlocutor to state is only a drama.
