The students who were protesting said that it is unacceptable to hold 13th Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress on the day when Kashmir is mourning the killings in Shopian and Anantnag District.
Sources told Kashmir News Service that hundreds of students assembled outside the venue (Convocation Centre) to protest against the said event and the civilian killings in Shopian.
The students of Kashmir University who were protesting offered funeral prayers in absentia for militants and civilians killed during three gunfights in Anantnag and Shopian district yesterday.
Hundreds of Students from hostels marched towards the venue and raised pro-freedom slogans, where Governor N N Vohra was present as chief guest.
The protest was later joined by the girl students as well. Sources told KNS that the girls from Rabia Basri and Qurat ul Ain Haider, (RA), hostels marched towards university campus and raised anti-government slogans.
However, the huge numbers of security forces were deployed in the university. “Government is not allowing students to protest peacefully about the civilian killings. Harassing students inside the campus is a shame,” said a student. (KNS)
