Srinagar: Kashmir on Monday observed a complete shout down against the killings that took place in different gun battles in South Kashmir.
To maintain law and order in the Valley, the authorities placed restrictions in the sensitive parts of Kashmir. All the pro-freedom leaders were either placed under house arrest or lodged in different police stations. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai was placed under house arrest at his residence Baghat, Srinagar on Sunday.
Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Mohammad Yasin Malik was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar on three days judicial remand.
JKLF in an issued statement stated that Police in the morning cordoned the residence of JKLF chairman and immediately shifted Yasin to the police station from where he was shifted to central jail Srinagar on a three-day judicial remand.
Life in Kashmir remained crippled on Monday as all the commercial establishments, offices, Educational Institutes remained closed and traffic was off the roads in the Valley due to a day-long strike called by JRL.
The state government on Monday imposed a strict curfew in district Kulgam in view of civilian and militant killings in South Kashmir, while the restrictions were imposed throughout Kashmir Valley.
Sources told Kashmir News Service that three persons received pellet injuries when the clashes broke out between the security forces and youth in Gol Chowk area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
However, the Mobile internet service and Railway service remained suspended throughout Kashmir Valley.
All examinations scheduled on Monday were also postponed by all three universities including Kashmir University, Islamic University, and Central University.
Meanwhile, the students of Kashmir University on Monday offered funeral prayers in absentia for militants and civilians killed during three gunfights in Anantnag and Shopian district yesterday.
Scores of traders on Monday morning assembled near the clock tower in Lal Chowk and held a demonstration against the killings of four civilians in Shopian yesterday.
Carrying placards that read “Stop Genocide in Kashmir”, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) demanded that the government take notice of the situation prevalent here and stop the circle of killings. (KNS)
