Srinagar: Train service was suspended on Sunday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where encounter between militants and government forces ensued late Saturday night at three places.
However, trains will chug as per schedule in north Kashmir, a senior railway official told UNI.
He said all trains between Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region passing through south Kashmir have been suspended for security reasons today. No train will therefore run on this route till further orders.
The train service has been suspended following fresh advisory received from police this morning not to run any train in south Kashmir for security reasons. ‘We are acting on the advice of police,’ he said, adding the decision was taken in the interest of safety of passengers and railway property.
However, he said, trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir as per schedule.
