Jammu: Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta distributed financial assistance amounting Rs 7.38 lakh among 23 beneficiaries of Gandhi Nagar constituency under State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) and National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) here Saturday.
Under SMAS welfare initiative, the Government provides a financial assistance amounting to Rs. 38,500/- to a poor girl for solemnizing her marriage. This program was launched by the present coalition Government to promote the girl child and helping the poor parents who face difficulty in solemnizing the marriages of their daughters.
While under the NFBS, families living below the poverty line are entitled to get financial benefits after the death of the sole breadwinner. This scheme ensures a one-time payable sum of Rs 20,000/- to the bereaved family.
The beneficiaries hailed from several areas of the constituency including Dharap, Chatta, Sher Garh, Narwal, Nanak Nagar, Bohr camp etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said it is endeavor of the Government to provide better amenities to the people at their doorstep under a well-knit mechanism and support all those in need so that they can avail benefits of several welfare schemes and live a dignified life. He asked the people to coordinate with the administration and project the local priorities so that the administration takes care of these accordingly. He said several initiatives have been initiated to develop the Gandhi Nagar constituency on modern lines, with special emphasis on road connectivity and education sector which are key to the prosperity.
He further said several welfare initiative have been launched by the Government to benefit the people especially females of the State, as strengthening, empowering a female of as household translates to empowering the community.
