‘Will consult others on future strategy, Says Geelani

Srinagar: In his first address at the Hyderpora Jamia Masjid in lasy eight years, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shaj Geelani on Friday said he won’t jump the gun on the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir government to release him.
“New strategy will be framed after thorough consultations,” he said. While addressing a massive gathering at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora after his release from house detention, Geelani said that he read from a newspaper Friday morning that the government has decided to free him.
Director General of Police S P Vaid had during his recent public statements reiterated that Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik were free to go anywhere. However, he was subsequently making it clear that the leaders won’t be allowed to create law and order problems.
“I won’t jump the gun. We will work out a new strategy after thorough consultations,” said Geelani. 88-year-old, who looked frail, asked the people to remain steadfast till the goal of right to self determination is achieved. He left for his residence soon after the prayers.
As soon as the news of Geelani’s release spread in the area, hundreds of people, including women and children, thronged the masjid to listen to the speech of the ailing leader.
