Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday paid tribute to slain constable Manzoor Ahmad Naik who was awarded Shaurya Chakra by the President Ram Nath Kovind.
In a statement issued here, police spokesperson said the award was received by widow of the constable at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Defence Nirmala Sitharaman were also present at the event, said the spokesperson.
Naik was killed in a gunfight with militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last year.
“Constable Manzoor Ahmad without caring for his personal safety and besides being seriously wounded continued to fight till his last breath…,” said the spokesperson.
Ahmad, according to the spokesperson, had started his career with the police department in the year 2003.
