Srinagar/March,29 :ย Hundreds of anganwadi workers and helpers virtually brought the normal activities in city centre Lal Chowk to a grinding halt as they took outย a protest march and a sit-in at Regal Chowk
The anganwadi workers have been protesting from last two months demanding hike in their monthly honorarium and release of their long pending salaries.
Traffic was halted for more than an hour as protesting anganwadi workers occupied the busy Residency Road amid anti-government slogans.
Earlier, anganwadi workers under the banner of J&K Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association Kashmir, assembled at Partap Park.
A senior official from the state administration appeared at the protesting scene asking them to call-off their protest, also assuring them to solve their long pending demands.
The anganwadi workers threatened to go on hunger strike from 1st of April if their demands were not met.
