Srinagar: A two-day workshop on astronomy and sky observations commenced Saturday at Media Complex Srinagar.
The workshop ‘Kashmir Teacher Training Workshop for Observations’ is being organized by Science Teachers Association in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar (New Delhi), Astronomical Society of India (ASI), Directorate of School Education and SPEAK NGO.
On the occasion resource persons from Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education, Mumbai and Astronomical Society of India threw light on the subject and highlighted the importance of knowledge of astronomy, Telescope optics and sky observations.
Dr Ankiet Sule, Secretary International Olympiad Association and also a member of Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education said the teachers here need to develop an interest in astronomy.
Chairperson Science Teachers Association, Dr Seemin Rubab said “more teachers need to come forward and participate in these types of workshops to have sound knowledge in the interesting subject.”
She added that the workshop was conducted with the aim to train teachers in the state so that they can impart training of handling of the telescope and teach sky observation to the budding astronomers here.
Pertinently the workshop was attended by Science teachers from both Jammu and Kashmir divisions besides astronomy enthusiasts.
A sky observation session is also scheduled for the teachers at Women’s Polytechnic College.
