Jammu: Police on Saturday resorted to tear gas shelling and cane charged protesters who pelted stones on them during a protest in Nowshera area of Rajouri district.
Reports said that a scuffle ensued after police prevented a rally of locals heading towards the revenue complex in Nowshera to protest the yesterday’s order in which sub-divisional magistrate posts of Nowshera, Kalakote and Sunderbani were upgraded to additional deputy commissioners.
They said that the protesters pelted the police with stones who retaliated with tear gas, triggering further clashes.
Reports said that fifteen persons, including Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, sustained injures during clashes later in the day in Nowshera. DC Rajouri Shahid Iqbal, according to media reports, was hit with a bottle in his head when he was negotiating with protesters. the officer was cornered by protesters with whom he was negotiating.Around 14 others including Four policemen and a senior police officer are among the injured.
