Jammu: In an unprecedented move, International Day of Forests was celebrated across all the Jails of Jammu & Kashmir on the directions of Director General of Police, Prisons J&K, Dilbag Singh.
Though this year, theme of the International Day of Forests was; “Forests and sustainable Cities”, various programs were organized in all the Jails on March 21.
On the occasion, trees were planted by the Superintendents of Prisons by involving local Social Forestry Department as well as the Horticulture Department to sensitize the gathering about the values and significance of forests.
Prisoners were made aware about the contribution of trees and plants in balancing of life cycle on earth and also briefed about how forests and trees regulate temperature, water flows and provide food and shelter; besides cleansing the air for human well being along with many other benefits.
DGP Prisons, J&K congratulated the officers and all stakeholders for successful organization of the program.
