Kupwara: Five militants and equal number of government forces are reported to have been killed in the gunfight continuing unabated in Halmatpora area of North Kashmir’s frontier district Kupwara. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh have in their separate statements tribute the army and police personnel killed in the gunfight.
The encounter that ensued Tuesday this week had claimed the lives of four militants, however on the second day, five government forces personnel and a militant were reported killed in the gunfight.
A police official said that so far five militants, two police men and a a soldier of territorial army wete killed . The Srinagar based Defense spokesperson in a Whatsapp text said that two army men and two policemen were killed in the gunfight.
A police officer said that a joint team of the Army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles and SOG launched the operation following inputs about the movement of seven foreign militants in the area. Director General of Police SP Vaid confirmed the killing of two policemen and a soldier. The gunfight was underway till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh have in their separate statements tributed the four Police and Army personnel who were killed in Halmatpora Kupwara gunfight Wednesday.
In her statement Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed solidarity with the bereaved families of the deceased and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
