Family says ‘Shahnawaz is a teacher’
Kulgam: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant and recovered a pistol from his possession in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A police official said that acting on a tip-off, the forces arrested suspected militant and recovered some arms and ammunition, including a pistol, from his possession.
Police said that on specific input, Security Forces established special check points in the areas of Nillow, Kakran and Adijan areas of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
During checking at Takia Adijan area one suspect who was with a Chinese Pistol, One Magazine, 5 live rounds and ten thousand rupees (Indian currency) was apprehended.
On questioning, the suspect revealed his identity as Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir resident of Bugam.
Investigation conducted so far has revealed that the said individual is involved in subversive activities.
“In this regard, a case FIR number 17/2018 under section 13, 18, 20, 38, 39 ULA (P) Act, 307, 120-B RPC and 7/25 Indian Arms Act stands registered at Police Station D H Pora and investigation has been taken up.”
Meanwhile, family members of the arrested youth claimed that Shahnawaz was a private school teachers who usually spent his time in teaching students.
“We are shocked to hear from the police that a pistol has been recovered from his possession. He had gone to market to fetch medicine for his ailing child but was arrested by police,” the family members said demanding thorough probe into the matter.
