Srinagar/March,17:Thousands of people on Friday participated in the last rites of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind militant Shabir Ahmad at his native Aghanizipora village in Awantipora tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Chanting pro-freedom slogans, thousands of people marched along with the body of Ahmad who was killed along with an associate Owais of neighbouring Tral area in an overnight gunfight with forces in Khonmoh on the outskirts of Srinagar, region’s largest city.
Ahmad, according to a police official, had joined militancy last year.
The gunfight had begun yesterday after forced chased the militants following an attack on the policemen guarding a Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anwar Khan in Balhama area of Khonmoh.
The militants were trapped by the forces in a house which was razed to ground by the use of explosives.
