Srinagar/March,17: Police on Friday said the bodies of two militants Killed in an overnight encounter in Khonmoh area in the outskirts of Srinagar were recovered and handed over to their families.
“Two dead bodies of militants have been recovered so far, whose identities are being ascertained,” said a spokesman, in a statement.
“Along {with} the dead bodies, incriminating materials which include weapon and ammunition have been recovered as well.”
He said that the gunfight began Thursday after militants attacked the policemen guarding a Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dr Anwar Khan.
“Following leads, forces cordoned a cluster of houses at Balhama, wherein the hiding militants fired upon them. During the initial firing, a CRPF personnel sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to 92 Base Hospital for treatment. He is stated to be stable,” said the spokesman.
The slain militants have been identified as Owais Ahmad of Tral and Shabir Ahmad of Aghanzipora.

The official said slain militants belonged to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind militant iutfit.
Meanwhile, protests have erupted in Nowdal and Aghanzipora Awantipora – native areas of the slain militants.
Reports said that taranas were being played on the public address systems of the mosques in these areas.
