Secy HeD discusses proposal to transform institutional campuses into green Campuses

JammuPrincipal Secretary, Higher Education Department (HeD) Asgar Samoon Tuesday chaired a meeting to discuss the proposal for transforming institutional campuses into Green Campuses.

The meeting was attended by Director Colleges HeD, Director Science and Technology, the representative of JK Science and Technology Council.

The Principal Secretary stressed upon concerned for making the College/University campuses energy sufficient by taking measures like installing Solar Panels, among others.

It was informed in the meeting that JAKEDA, Science & Technology Development in collaboration with Higher Education Department has already taken up the initiative of installation of Rooftop Solar Power Plants in the college and University Campuses to convert the Campuses into Green Campuses.

JAKEDA targets to set up around 2 MW capacity solar power plants in the campuses, the process for which was initiated during the current financial year; MNRE, GoI is providing 6% subsidy for setting up of Rooftop Solar Power Plants.

Principals Secretary HeD appreciated the efforts put by JAKEDA to carry out the survey of Colleges & Universities campuses of the State to determine the potential of Green Power and has assured that the State Share would be arranged by the HeD.

He advised CEO, JAKEDA to take up all the installations of Rooftop Solar Power Plants in the next financial year and directed for survey of all the college campuses to be carried out in shortest possible time.

It was further informed in the meeting that so far JAKEDA has installed 500 KW capacity SPP at IUST Awantipora, 100 KW at BGSN University Rajouri, 50 KW at GDC Ramban, 100 KW at GDC Kupwara besides, 100 KW for GDC Handwara, 200 KW for Islamia College of SC. & Comm. Srinagar, 150 KW for GDC Reasi, 700 KW capacity for KU are in pipeline.
