Militant killings hits normal life in Valley

Srinagar: Normal life was disrupted in major parts of Kashmir Valley after the killing of three militants in South Kashmir. The killings sparked protests and clashes in many parts while authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city and South Kashmir to maintain law and order.
Authorities ordered the closure of schools and colleges in Srinagar and South Kashmir while college work was suspended in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. All the exams scheduled for the Monday were postponed.
The killings disrupted normal life in majority of the Srinagar city areas. While authorities imposed restrictions in old Srinagar city and areas falling under the jurisdiction of Soura police station, the city centre Lal Chowk traders observed a spontaneous shutdown.
Reports said that majority of the trades in Lal Chowk shutdown their shops and business establishments in wake of the killing of three militants.
Pertinently, 3 militants were killed which include Eesa Fazli of Srinagar, Syed Owais Shafi of Kokernag and a non local militant were killed in Hakoora Kokarnag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the wee hours.
Reports added that there was skeletal movement of transport on city roads. The routine business was affected in most of the parts of Srinagar city.
Authorities also suspended the high-speed mobile Internet service in Srinagar and South Kashmir..
An official said that telecom operators were asked to reduce the speed of mobile Internet “as a precautionary measure”.
In a bid to stop protest rallies, authorizes arrested Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his house.
“Yasin Sahab was arrested from his home and was lodged at Kothi Bagh police station,” said a JKLF spokesperson.
Authorities also placed Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest to prevent him from leading any protests against the killings of three militants in a gunfight.
A spokesperson of the amalgam said Mirwaiz was put under house arrest at his Nigeen residence on Monday morning.
Clashes erupted in various localities of Soura area in Srinagar.
Witnesses said people clashed with the forces after they marched towards the residence of Fazili in Ahmednagar Soura. Reports said that shortly after the culmination of funeral prayers at Sharjah Ground Ahmednagar, clashes erupted between protesters and government forces. Forces according to witnesses fired tear smoke shells to disperse the stone-throwers who attacked on them
Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed in the area fired several tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.
Reports said groups of youth hit to roads near old Burzaula Bride in Srinagar and pelted stones on the private vehicles and the cops. Large contingent of police and Para-military troopers rushed to spot to bring order.
Witnesses said that agitated youth targeted vehicles at Parimpora Bus Stand with stones that were leaving for North Kashmir areas. Witnesses added that due to stone-pelting, drivers halted their vehicles and locked the Bus Stand.
Class work also remained suspended at the Government Degree College Ganderbal.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr Piyush Singla said that the class work in Government Degree College Ganderbal remained suspended “as a precautionary measure.”
Reports from Budgam said that a couple of areas including Machwo and Kralpora observed shutdown against the killing of three militants. Shops and business establishments remained shut in these areas.
Massive clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district against these killings.
Reports said that youth took to streets and staged massive protests in Anantnag town and Kokernag area of the district.
Reports added that Forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse protesters who pelted stones on them. The clashes erupted at KP Road, Lazibal, Batengo, General Bus Stand and Ashajipora areas of Anantnag district.
Reports from Tral town of Pulwama district said that groups of youth pelted stones on the deployed Forces.
Massive clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district against the killings of three militants in a gunfight with the government forces earlier Monday.
Reports said that youth took to streets and staged massive protests in Anantnag town and Kokernag area of the district.
A police official said that situation remained by and large peaceful across Kashmir Valley.
