Samba: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Friday organized a function to mark the celebrations of International Women’s Day in Samba.
The function was organized on “Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups” in which around 250 women SHG members and rural entrepreneurs promoted under NABARD’s SHG-Bank Linkage programe participated.
The programe was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda. She said this day marks the celebration of achievements of women across fields and deliberated on various issues related to women equality, prosperity and expressed her pleasure towards NABARD for organizing the programe.
Chief General Manager of NABARD Vijay Kumar spoke about the importance of Self Help Groups in empowerment of rural women and how these groups are acting as micro banks at gross roots level. He said SHGs are a vital tool for socio economic development of women.
On this occasion, the DDC Sheetal Nanda also inaugurated a Skill Development Programe for SHG members for undertaking uniform stitching. The women members presented cultural items during the programe which was highly appreciated by all. A play “Naari to Narayani” on women empowerment was also presented by the members of New Sargam Social and Culture Club.
