Baramulla: The death of an elderly man triggered massive protests in Delina area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla District on Thursday.
Abdul Aziz Ahanger (60) resident of Ratherpora area who according to police died after he was hit by a vehicle late Wednesday night. The driver of Police vehicle was arrested and a case was also registered in this connection.
Official sources told Kashmir Horizon that the elderly man namely Abdul Aziz Ahanger (60) was hit by the police vehicle at around 8:30 pm Wednesday evening and was rushed to the district hospital Baramulla where he succumbed to injuries.
Locals said that a police team had gone to the area to arrest some youth but came under heavy stone pelting. Police fired few rounds in air and fled from the spot. While removing from the area, the police Rakshak vehicle ran over the elderly causing his instantaneous death even though locals immediately shifted him to District Hospital Baramulla where he was declared brought dead.As soon as news spread in the area, people hit the roads and termed it a target killing.The body of the deceased was lying at District Hospital Baramulla till Thursday morning. Law enforcing authorities suspended mobile internet services in the area.
