Guv felicitates toppers of SMVD Gurukul at Raj Bhavan Jmu

Jammu: Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, felicitated 9 outstanding students of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra, for their excellent performances in academics, at a function held at the Raj Bhavan here Monday.

Presently 151 students are studying in classes 6th  to Shastri Part-I in the fully residential Gurukul, established by the Shrine Board in 2010, which is affiliated with the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, a leading Sanskrit University in the country. All the students are provided education, boarding, lodging, uniforms, books and other required facilities at the cost of the Board.

Congratulating the students for the laurels won by them, Governor complimented Dr. S. S. Bloeria, former Chairman, Governing Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul,  B. B. Vyas, Chairman, Governing Council of the Gurukul, Prof. Vihwamurty Shastri, Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, and Member, Governing Council of the Gurukul, for successfully guiding the Gurukul’s functioning and for the excellent standards achieved by it. Governor expressed appreciation of the work put in by the Acharyas and teachers for imparting education of very high standard to the students.

Governor suggested introduction of scholarships for enabling the Acharya pass outs to pursue post graduation and, later, doctoral studies in the best Sanskrit institutions of the country. He advised that a comprehensive scholarship which would cover the cost of tuition fee, board, lodging and transportation expenses may be evolved and recommended by the Governing Council of the Gurukul.

Governor presented Appreciation Letters, a set of the Commemorative Coins of Shrine Board and cash prizes to Gotam Sharma; Shubham Sharma; Anish Sharma; Mohit Sharma; Ankit Sharma; Prikshit Sharma; Nand Lal; Raghav Ramotra and Gourav Sharma.

Earlier, in his introductory remarks, Prof. Vihwamurty Shastri, Director of the Gurukul, gave a resume of the aims, objectives, historyand growth of the Gurukul and highlighted the achievements of the institution in varied fields, since its establishment.

Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board;  Pankaj Gupta, Dy. CEO and Administrator of the Gurukul; Vice Principal, Acharyas, award-winning students and their parents were present on the occasion.
