Sopore: At least four shops and a rooftop covering eight other adjoining shops were gutted in a blaze in Iqbal market of Kupwara town late this evening, police said.
The fire broke out around 7:30 PM from a shop and soon engulfed adjoining shops in the commercially busy market near district hospital Kupwara.
The fire tenders, police and locals mostly shopkeepers worked hard to douse the raging fire that lasted for about an hour.
The cause of fire could not be known immediately, a police official said. “Heavy rainfall came as a blessing in disguise to bring the raging fire under control,” he said.
