Ang: Department of Fisheries Anantnag organised awareness cum training program for the fish farmers and unemployed youth of the district at Fish Farm Achabal under ATMA scheme Wednesday.
On the occasion, the farmers were given training regarding various aspects of fish farming. Experts from the Department informed the trainees regarding the modern and scientific ways of fish farming. They were given the latest information about the seed, feed, water, breeding, medicine, temperature and other related factors of the fish farming.
Deputy Director Fisheries Anantnag, Mohammad Ashraf Darzi, while interacting with the farmers said department is doing a lot of efforts for the benefit of the fish farmers. He added that need of the hour is to establish a coordination between the department and the farmers for the better establishment of the fish farming units. He further said market facilities are being provided outside the valley also and very soon fish from Anantnag will be exported to other parts of the country and abroad. He informed the farmers that a feed mill will also be established in the district soon.
Chief Project Officer, Kokernag Fish Farm, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, said since Anantnag district has been recognized as the trout district, therefore the district will get more exposure for fish farming and other allied activities. He added the fisheries sector has tremendous potential in terms of employment opportunities, adding youth should come forward to establish the fish farms and provide employment to others as well.
Participants in the program thanked the department for organizing such programs and hoped that such programs will be organized in future too.
