Shopian:  District Development Commissioner Shopian Mohammad Aijaz Wednesday flagged-off a group of progressive fish farmers on a day-long interstate exposure-cum-training tour under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme.

The fish farmers shall be taken to trout fish farming project Kokernag where the departmental experts shall provide the technical training to the different fish farmers of the district.

The farmers shall be provided on-farm training regarding fish handling, transportation and other related fish activities. This will help the fish farmers of the district to improve the production and to minimise the loss of fish due to unscientific management practices.

The DDC on the occasion interacted with farmers and said the district is bestowed with natural resources and there is a tremendous scope of fish farming which can help in addressing unemployment to some extent.

The Assistant Director (AD) Fisheries, said the farmers will be imparted know-how for better management regarding feeding, cleanliness and better growth of fish under latest technology. He said so far 29 units both in trout culture and carp culture have been constructed in the district and the farmers are fetching good returns.
