Pulwama: Horticulture Department Pulwama Saturday organised awareness cum distribution program for local fruit growers at Karmulla village of Tral.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said horticulture sector plays an important role in the State economy and is a source of livelihood for thousands of people belonging to the district.
He suggested that if given a requisite fillip the sector can strengthen the financial condition of the district, can play an important role in employment generation.
He said the administration is trying its best to develop the village as apple-valley and urged growers to make the best use of technology. He stressed upon farmers to avail the maximum benefits of the government schemes for raising their standard of living.
Later on, different agricultural equipment was distributed among the 252 families of the area under the establishment of a model village at Karmullah.
Besides, the District Horticulture officer Pulwama K. Kotwal, other concerned officers, and scores of farmers from the area were present on the occasion.
