Border skirmishes & peace in Kashmir

The fresh spurt in border skirmishes in Jammu and Kashmir with both uniformed men and the civilians becoming casualties on both sides of the borders is though worrying for both the governments and the people, but neither jingoism nor whipping up war frenzy can help silence the guns on borders. The accusations and counter accusations have only raised tempers to multiply the difficulties coming in the way of conflict resolution in Jammu & Kashmir state. The alleged ceasefire violations suit the political agenda of the political powers in control on one or both sides of the border. The causes of the present border skirmishes are obviously rooted in the vested interests who try to flare up emotions of people for their own petty political interests in both India and Pakistan. In a very sorry state of affairs Modi led Government in Delhi which reiterates commitment to carry forward the policy of peace and reconciliation of first BJP Prime Minister Attal Bihari Vajpayee is now looking for excuses to derail the bilateral composite dialogue process. In fact top BJP leaders tend to further the poll prospects of their party in the forthcoming assembly elections this year and the parliamentary elections likely to be held in early 2019. Despite knowing that fuelling the borders could flare up the conflicts between India and Pakistan Modi led government is furthering the objectives of hostilities and conflicts. BJP leaders are furthering the objectives of hostilities and conflicts to cash in on the ongoing border tensions to divert attention of the people from its politics of poll promises to politics of emotions. BJP is finding opportune time to display its might and create an impression that it plays the big boss in the country. By all probabilities the hostilities on the borders are inspired by petty political considerations by Modi led government in New Delhi.
Escalating violence but not reducing the tension on the borders is obviously suiting the poll interests of the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections and more so in Jammu & Kashmir state and this what the people of Jammu & Kashmir did not expect from the Modi led BJP government. As the armies on the two sides are caught in eyeball to eyeball situation, it is obviously clear that colossal waste of human resource and money adding to the vulnerability of armies and civilian populations neither suits India nor Pakistan. When the three wars between India and Pakistan have not brought the two countries nearer to resolution on any conflict, how come the ongoing border skirmishes can help them settle the unsettled conflicts? Wars, escalation of militaries and heavy expenditure on weaponry has only ended up making both the countries poorer and unable to focus on issues of development, poverty, illiteracy and lack of health facilities and so the only way left for the two countries is the dialogue and conflict resolution. The only way forward has to be through negotiations. So sooner the Modi led government contemplates moves to revive the composite dialogue process the better it would for the furtherance of the objectives of peace and conflict resolution in Jammu & Kashmir.
